Immersion heater for heat from photovoltaic power

Immersion heater

The immersion heaters from my-PV can be perfectly combined with the grid-connected photovoltaic power managers AC•THOR and AC•THOR 9s, as well as the off-grid DC power manager SOL•THOR. These heating cartridges, as the screw-in heating elements are often called, can be installed in fresh water and buffer tanks. Due to their special design, they generate very low thermal surface loads on the heating elements, which directly contributes to an increased product lifespan.

To ensure that the heating rods can precisely convert photovoltaic power, our infinitely variable power managers are necessary. The AC•THOR and AC•THOR 9s regulate the screw-in heating element seamlessly, ensuring that the maximum power transfer into heat is guaranteed to the second, depending on the photovoltaic surplus.

In the off-grid version, the SOL•THOR transfers not just the surplus but the entire output from the photovoltaic modules to the screw-in heating element for heat production in a seamless manner.

The heating rods are available in two versions: a smaller 3 kW variant and a 9 kW version. The 3 kW screw-in heating element was specifically developed for use with the photovoltaic power manager AC•THOR and the DC power manager SOL•THOR. The more powerful 9 kW variant is intended for use with the photovoltaic power manager AC•THOR 9s.

Advantages

  • Manually adjustable target temperature (bimetal thermostat)

  • 1.5 inch standard thread

  • Single phase or 3-phase

  • Optionally also without thermostat, only with safety temperature limiter

Linear power control by Photovoltaic-Power-Manager AC•THOR or AC•THOR 9s

The desired hot water temperature can be set with a rotary knob. AC•THOR or AC•THOR 9s detects the shutdown and automatically goes into standby mode.

A safety temperature limiter is of course integrated.

In course of some projects, higher temperatures are desired, for example, when a buffer tank is to be charged to over 90°C. For this purpose, the immersion heaters are also available without a thermostat, only with a safety temperature limiter. To end the heating process, the temperature sensor supplied with the AC•THOR and AC•THOR 9s must then be used in any case.

Autonomous Photovoltaic Heat: Linearly controlled by the SOL•THOR

Not only suitable for applications with our grid-connected products (AC•THOR and AC•THOR 9s), the 3 kW immersion heater from my-PV can also be used with the DC power manager, called SOL•THOR.

Important note: The protective contact plug on the 3 kW screw-in heating element can be removed without voiding the warranty! This is necessary because the SOL•THOR requires direct wiring to the screw-in heating element.

The desired hot water temperature can be set directly on the screw-in heating element using a rotary knob. A compliant safety temperature limiter is integrated.

For higher temperature requirements (e.g., in buffer tanks up to over 90 °C), screw-in heating elements are also available without a thermostat, featuring only a safety temperature limiter. In such cases, the heating process must be terminated using the temperature sensor included with the SOL•THOR.
