Compatible with the EcoTracker from everHome
The EcoTracker from everHome monitors electricity consumption in real-time. For example, when combined with a balcony solar power system and our heating solutions, 100% self-consumption can be achieved.
everHome, a manufacturer based in North Rhine-Westphalia, offers solutions that measure energy consumption in homes and display it via an app. This allows for the targeted control of heating, lighting, blinds, or traditional appliances through smart plugs, as is typical in smart home systems. The EcoTracker from everHome takes it a step further by measuring directly at the digital electricity meter, tracking energy flows—whether energy is being consumed or fed back into the grid. This data is used to manage consumption more effectively and save money.
The EcoTracker can be installed without any need to modify the meter cabinet or deal with wiring, which would typically require expert knowledge. According to the manufacturer, it can simply be plugged into any digital electricity meter – plug & play. The only requirements are Wi-Fi coverage and a power outlet near the electricity meter.
TIP
In Germany, not every digital electricity meter is a smart meter, even though the terms are often used interchangeably in the media, which can cause confusion for consumers. There is a distinction between a modern metering device and an intelligent metering system:
Modern metering device = Digital electricity meter
Intelligent metering system (smart meter) = Digital electricity meter with an additional communication unit (for the energy provider)
A potential use case: Balcony power plant
Attention owners of balcony solar plants: Typically, these systems do not receive feed-in tariffs because the costs and benefits are not proportional. Nevertheless, the goal is to use as much of the self-generated energy as possible within the house or apartment.
With the EcoTracker from everHome, surplus energy can be easily detected via the app. One option is to manually reduce the surplus by turning on additional devices (washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, etc.).
However, a much easier solution is to use the surplus energy, which would otherwise be fed into the grid, for seamless hot water production. Recently, my-PV products became compatible with the EcoTracker, allowing the surplus measurement to be directly used for my-PV’s photovoltaic heat solutions.
What are the benefits of this compatibility?
100% self-consumption, as the heat can be directly utilized via a heating element (ideally already installed in the storage tank) through the linearly controlled photovoltaic power manager AC•THOR. This ensures that no energy is wasted by being fed back into the grid, maximizing your own yield – for household devices and hot water production.
If a heating element is already installed, customers with a balcony solar power system do not need a professional installer, as everything can be connected via plug & play.
If there is no heating element in the storage tank, seamless control and integration of a heating element can be achieved with the AC ELWA 2, for example. However, my-PV recommends involving a trained professional for this installation.
